From Homer to Anchorage

On Saturday, we drove back from Homer to Anchorage and we've been spoiled with the weather which allowed us to see the Cook Inlet volcanoes (Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine) behind an ice barrier!

Of these volcanoes, Redoubt is actually active and that's why Homer was in a tsunami area (one big part of this volcano is broken and might fall one day in the sea and will create a tsunami).

The series of 1989-1990 eruptions from Mt. Redoubt were the second most costly in the history of the United States and destroyed lots of houses in the Kenai Peninsula.

On our way, we've also met 2 mooses and one crossed the road without even watching the cars coming...They really don't think for themselves!

We stopped at Hope (hey! there is a village of the Russian meaning of my name!)...very sweet and very small!

Samedi, nous sommes partis de Homer pour retourner à Anchorage et nous avons eu un superbe temps ce qui nous a permis de voir les volcans de Cook Inlet (Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine) derrière la banquise!

Un de ces volcans, le Redoubt is encore actif et c'est pourquoi Homer est une zone à risque pour les tsunamis (un gros morceau de volcan est cassé et risque de tomber un jour dans la mer ce qui créera un tsunami).

Les éruptions du mt Redoubt en 1989-1990 fûrent, financièrement, une des plus dramatiques, dans l'histoire des Etats-Unis et a détruit énormément de maison dans la péninsule de Kenai. Sur notre route, nous avons aussi rencontré deux élans dont une qui traversait la route sans même regarder les voitures...Ils ne savent le danger!

Nous nous sommes arrêté à Hope (Eh oui! Il y a un village à mon nom -en russe Nadège signifie éspoir et donc Hope en anglais!)...très joli et très petit!
